ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
AUDITION REQUIREMENT
  • All students must submit a web link to a video recording of their playing in order to be considered for participation in the festival.  Each recording must contain two contrasting works of no longer than 15 minutes each.  The recording may be uploaded onto sites such as Youtube.com, Youku.com, or Google Drive and the link pasted onto the online application form.

INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS
  • All participants will need to prepare two works of no more than 5 minutes each for study during the festival (the time limit is to ensure that all students will have the opportunity to perform in a masterclass and concert).

  • All participants except for piano students must bring their own instruments.

  • Students who are travelling from overseas (i.e. not normally residing in Australia) must email proof of their travel insurance to contact@iamusica.org prior to the commencement of the festival.  We regret that we cannot accept students without proof of travel insurance purchase.

ACCOMMODATION
  • Participants will be hosted at a Melbourne CBD hotel in a twin-share arrangement with another participant of the same gender.

  • Daily breakfast is included in the stay from 16 to 23 August 2018.

2018 MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL
PIANO & STRINGS FESTIVAL

In 2018, the Melbourne International Piano and Strings Festival will make a much-anticipated return with an entire week of masterclasses, workshops, seminars, and performances.  Following on from the success of the 2017 festival with participants from all over Asia Pacific and a sold-out gala concert, the 2018 festival will again feature classes and performances by some of Australia's most celebrated musicians and offer a rare learning opportunity for talented students from all over the world.  

 

After an intensive week of studies and performances, participants will also have a chance to explore the beautiful surrounds of Melbourne and experience the best of what Victoria has to offer - from the unique Australian landscape to encounters with enchanting wildlife.  

 

The Melbourne International Piano and Strings Festival is a perfect showcase of the vibrant artistic culture of Melbourne and a drawcard for visitors from all over the world. We look forward to welcoming participants and audiences to the festival in 2018 to experience the magic of the city and and share in the celebration of the music.

Participants will enjoy two full days of sightseeing and experience the wonders of Melbourne and its surrounds, including:

  • Intermediate Class: 13-17 years old (as on first day of program).

  • Junior Academy: 6-12 years old (for information about the Junior Academy, please click here). 

  • Accepted Instruments: Piano, violin, viola, cello.

  • Minimum Musical Standard:  We recommend that applicants for the intermediate and senior classes have a minimum standard comparable to the following examination systems: Australian Music Examinations Board (A.M.E.B.): Grade 6; Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM): Grade 6; Chinese Musicians Association Graded Music Exams: Grade 8.
