MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL PIANO AND STRINGS FESTIVAL

Melbourne, Australia, 10-16 July 2017

 

Over an intensive week in July 2017, top music students from around the world will have the opportunity to experience individual lessons, masterclasses, interpretation classes, and workshops with Australia's leading musicians and professors.  The festival will culminate in a public gala concert to showcase the achievements of the students.

 

Students will also have the opportunity to experience the surrounds of Melbourne and visit some of Melbourne's most unique landmarks and attractions.

*Due to unforeseen circumstances, we regret to announce that Dr Elizabeth Sellars will no longer be able to teach at the festival this year.  We welcome Mr Matthew Tomkins to our teaching faculty for strings students.

FESTIVAL SCHEDULE:

 

 
  • 10–13 July: Attend class (9:30am – 4:30pm)

  • 14 July:  Attend class (9:30am – 2:30pm) + gala concert and reception (7:00pm-10:00pm)

  • 15 July:  Phillip Island Tour

  • 16 July:  Yarra Valley Tour

 

 

*Parents, families, and friends are welcome to attend the gala concert and reception on the evening of Friday 14 July.

 

FESTIVAL INCLUSIONS:

  • Masterclasses

  • Seminars/workshops on practice methods, music & the body, and performance psychology

  • Information sessions on studying at Australian universities and music for career/leisure options

  • 8 nights twin-share accommodation (Sunday 9 July – Sunday 16 July inclusive)

  • 5 days of public transport travel card

  • 1 x full-day sightseeing trip to Phillip Island (Saturday 15 July)

  • 1 x full-day sightseeing trip to the Yarra Valley (Sunday 16 July)

 

 

 

VENUE:

  • We are pleased to announce that the Melbourne International Piano & Strings Festival will take place at Wesley College (577 St Kilda Rd, Melbourne) – our school partner for the event.

 

 

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Age: Students must be aged 10 years or older on 1 June 2017.  Students under the age of 18 who do not normally reside in Melbourne must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the trip.

  • Accepted instruments: Piano, violin, viola, cello.

 

 

 

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS:​​

 

  • All participants will need to prepare two works of no more than 5 minutes each for study during the festival.

  • All participants except for piano students must supply their own instruments.

  • Students who are travelling from overseas (i.e. not normally residing in Australia) must email proof of their travel insurance to contact@iamusica.org prior to the commencement of the festival.  We regret that we cannot accept students without proof of travel insurance purchase.
